Our Externship and Preceptorship Program is accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association. It allows us to work with the AAHA and the Texas State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners to provide a hands-on learning experience for veterinary students, bringing them out of classroom theory and into the practical, real world of small animal veterinary medical practice.

What to Expect: Under the supervision of a licensed doctor of veterinary medicine, and in accordance with the Texas law, you will work cases with a veterinarian in a supportive, colleague-to-colleague, team teaching environment. You’ll learn and perfect your small animal physical exam skills, learn to perform veterinary medical treatments and procedures, use medical imaging and laboratory diagnostic tools, and interpret diagnostic data. You will also be involved with surgical cases and continue to grow your interpersonal skills through interactions with both support staff and clients.
