Rhode Island’s largest and most innovative animal welfare organization is seeking a Medical Director for our Animal Care Center. The Potter League for Animals in Middletown RI is an open admission shelter with an annual intake of approximately 2,000 animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, small mammals, reptiles and birds. Veterinary care for shelter animals is provided in our on-site veterinary suite. Community wellness clinics are held both at our animal care center and at off-site locations in communities of need.
Responsibilities include diagnosing and treating shelter animals, overseeing day to day health care and performing spay and/or neuter surgeries for shelter animals. Supervises veterinary technicians and assistants. Trains, supports and guides animal care staff in the medical treatment of the animals.
In addition, the Medical Director performs wellness exams on community owned animals at our outreach clinics. The Director of Veterinary Medicine is a member of the organization’s leadership team and works collaboratively with fellow directors to continuously improve operational effective and maintain high standards of animal care.
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree
License to practice veterinary medicine in Rhode Island, or ability to become licensed
Current DEA License, or ability to obtain.
Knowledge of Shelter Medicine protocols
Additional Salary Information: Veterinarian License and Veterinary Association Membership Dues expenses are reimbursed and there is an annual allowance for continued education.
Full time employees receive vacation and sick paid time off as well as seven paid holidays per year. Staff is also eligible to join a Simple IRA plan with a match up to 3% of gross. Health and Dental benefits are also available.
