GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: The lead vet is responsible for practicing high-quality medicine in client hospitals while helping to build and maintain the community of IndeVets in his or her region. The lead vet reports directly to the chief medical officer. This position is intended to evolve over time. The lead vet has the important job of telling the Independent Vets’ story and showing the new region why IndeVets are an exciting and new addition to their veterinary team!
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Practice high-quality veterinary medicine in client hospitals (30+ hr/week)
Support the chief medical officer with the following duties (10+ hrs/week)
Build and maintain the community of IndeVets in his or her region
Assist with recruiting and onboarding new IndeVets
Engage current client hospitals with outreach and hospital visits
Conduct new hospital community outreach (business development)
Act as a liaison for veterinary regulatory and legal issues in the region
Provide additional support to human resources, sales and/or operations if the need develops
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB
3+ years of full-time, general small animal practice experience
Experience with mentoring and managing other veterinarians or veterinary staff
Comfort with technology and web meetings – Microsoft (Office, Outlook, Sharepoint, Teams)
An ever-increasing desire to learn more and develop both as a clinician and a human being
Willingness to travel to company headquarters once quarterly (if in driving distance) or at least twice yearly (if in flying distance)
Willingness to grow with a start-up company
Willingness and ability to successfully balance clinical practice and management duties
HOW THIS JOB IS ONBOARDED, MANAGED AND REVIEWED
The Lead Vet onboards to Independent Vets as a practicing veterinarian
Spends his/her first days training and practicing with the CMO (The CMO travels to the Lead Vet)
Participates in weekly web meetings with the clinical management team (The Parliament)
Submits weekly hours tracking non-clinical work to the CMO
Participates in defining and completing monthly objectives using KPIs and other non-metric goals
After first month: Review with CMO to complete the Lead Vet’s medical record review and continuing education review as well as a general performance review
Each quarter: Informal web meeting review with CMO to discuss the performance of the regional team as well as the lead vet in that area
TIMELINE FOR REVIEWS AND AREAS OF OPPORTUNITY
The ideal candidate for this job is enthusiastic and willing to join a growing start-up company. This candidate recognizes the flexibility that is required in this role, not only as a practicing veterinarian, but as a member of the management team. When the candidate is not working in a client hospital, his/her working hours will be manually tracked. The timeline for reviews and changes to compensation/bonus structure is flexible depending on the personal growth of the Lead Vet as well as the growth of the Lead Vet’s region.
