Palmetto Animal League (PAL) is a private, non-profit animal rescue located in the beautiful lowcountry of Okatie, South Carolina, near Hilton Head Island. Our mission is to build a community where every neglected animal has a second chance at life.

An ideal candidate would be a passionate advocate for animal welfare with experience in both the shelter medicine and private practice worlds. PAL currently houses 200 animals in our shelter, additional animals in foster care and also operates a high quality affordable veterinary clinic for the community.

Duties and Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with the President, Adoption Care Coordinator and staff.
Diagnose and treat medical conditions in all PAL animals. Follow progress of all patients placed on treatment, keeping records of all treatments and final outcomes in coordination with the Adoption Center staff.
Direct, conduct and evaluate treatment plans, disease control measures and hands-on medical treatment and progress of animals housed at the adoption center including but not limited to:
Nutrition and feeding protocols
Parasite control measures
Housing and sanitation
Treatment protocols for routine infectious diseases
Preventative medicine procedures
Emergency evaluation, treatment and procedures
pre- adoption exams in accordance with PAL policies and procedures
Create, implement and measure compliance with procedures and protocols to ensure continued health.
Develop, conduct and monitor medical program protocols and procedures.
Direct, and conduct a cost contained sterilization program, including performance of ovariohysterectomies and castrations on cats and dogs. Supervise all aspects of the procedures including anesthesia and postoperative care of the patient.
Perform non-sterilization surgical procedures when deemed appropriate for the placement of a PAL animal and for the health and welfare of clinic client animals with an emphasis in keeping animals in their homes.
Oversee the scheduling of outside veterinary resources for procedures not available at PAL. This responsibility is limited to scheduled hours as PAL does not conduct after-hours emergency treatment at this time. The vet will decide what treatments or procedures are needed in coordination with other Managers as appropriate.
Assist with internal and public relations consultations and education services as they pertain to veterinary medical issues.
Provide telephone consultation with staff as needed during normal business hours.
Various duties as assigned by the President.
Additional Salary Information: 4 weeks paid vacation.
Reimbursement for licenses and liability insurance.

Palmetto Animal League(PAL) opened its first Adoption Center on October 30, 2010 after 8 years of managing a network of loving foster families to house and care for our abandoned and homeless animals. The Adoption Center, which includes living space for approximately 150 adoption-ready cats and dogs, serves as headquarters for the League’s operations. We offer animals a friendly, comfortable, low-stress environment which encourages humans to visit, adopt, volunteer and get involved. Our 7,700 square foot building is located in Riverwalk Business Park in Okatie, SC.
