The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a new position, the Assistant Dean for Students. The Assistant Dean will report to the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs and will provide oversight and lead recruitment, enrollment, professional development and support services for all students in the professional DVM program. In serving these functions, the Assistant Dean for Students will also lead the college’s diversity, equity and inclusion programs and promote ongoing efforts to create and sustain a positive, professional, and inclusive learning environment. The Knoxville campus of the University of Tennessee is seeking candidates who have the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University. The College of Veterinary Medicine is located in Knoxville, TN. Knoxville is a short drive away from the Great Smoky Mountains and from a number of state parks and recreation areas. There are many outdoor activities available, including hiking, biking, trail running, climbing, and water sports. Knoxville also has many sporting events and a vibrant downtown with excellent restaurants, bustling farmer’s markets, and a lively arts and cultural scene including live music, theater, and many art and cultural festivals. It was recently named one of the country’s Top 100 Best Places to Live by livability.com and described as “the perfect combination of natural beauty and big city amenities”. It is the home of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, which includes the UT College of Veterinary Medicine. Required Qualifications The applicant must have earned a DVM, PhD, or similar professional degree. Experience in a tenured, tenure-track, or non-tenure-track position in a college or school of veterinary medicine is highly desired. Skills and Preferred Experience To be successful, the Assistant Dean for Students should have excellent administrative, project management, supervisory, counseling and communication skills and should have an understanding of issues and challenges affecting higher education. The applicant also must be able to plan strategically, establish goals, effectively set priorities, and interact and work collaboratively with a broad range of people and groups. Candidates are also preferred to have experience in several of the following areas:
