Emergency Veterinarian

Sign-on / relocation bonus eligible. Quarterly bonus eligible.  

The Emergency Veterinarian assesses patients that present with a variety of potential urgent conditions that range in severity from mild to critical.  We see a wide variety of medical and surgical cases.  Some may require emergency procedures and surgery.  We have board certified surgery but do encourage our doctors to perform procedures as well at their own pace with guidance and mentorship as needed.  Our candidate must be confident and display composure under pressure.  He or she must be knowledgeable, adaptable and embrace teamwork. Top level medical and surgical care are integral as is dedication to client service.

Key responsibilities:  

• Diagnose and treat diseases and injuries of pets; primarily dogs and cats
• Examine animals to determine the nature of disease or injury 
• Design and implement treatment options that best fit the needs of the patient and the client
• Effectively communicate and work with staff members in a positive team driven approach to order maximize patient care and client satisfaction.
• Communicate with referring veterinarians
• Participate in ongoing education, seminars, and training as appropriate 

Requirements:  

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree
• 2 + years of experience practicing veterinary medicine in a Veterinary Hospital 

setting is preferred 

• Internship trained is also preferred
• Ability to attain Connecticut Veterinary License

Veterinary Emergency Center of Canton is a state-of-the-art hospital located in 

Canton, CT, just outside of Hartford. Our hospital has private exam rooms, a large 

treatment area, an ultrasound/radiology room, a beautiful surgery suite and an in-house 

laboratory and pharmacy. The hospital is open 7 days per week from 8am-12pm 

Monday-Friday and 8am-8pm on Saturday and Sunday.  We have 24-hour nursing care for our inpatients 7 days a week including holidays. 

Canton is located just outside of the Greater Hartford, Connecticut area and has easy 

access to everything a big city has to offer. We are located halfway between New York City and Boston.  Canton is picturesque with great walking 

trails, beautiful rivers, and ski slopes. For families, Canton offers top rated schools, great restaurants, and shopping. With an easy commute into Hartford, you can enjoy the 

small town feel while being close to the big city!
